Free blog outline generator

Give it a working title, the reader's search intent and a target length, and this generator returns a complete, editable outline in Markdown — an introduction hook, headed sections with a one-line brief each, a questions block and a conclusion with a call-to-action slot. A how-to becomes steps. A comparison becomes criteria and a verdict.

Runs in your browser. Nothing you type is uploaded, sent to a server or stored anywhere except this device. This tool is template- and rule-based — it does not use generative AI, and it will never invent a fact for your post.

Worked example

For the title above with how-to intent, the outline opens with “Why this matters now”, then “What you need before you start”, three numbered steps, “Common mistakes at each step” and “A realistic timeline”, followed by a questions block and a conclusion. Switch the intent to Comparison and the same title produces a different skeleton entirely — short verdict first, criteria in the open, both options treated in the same order. Same topic, different reader, different post.

The method

How it works

  1. Intent decides the skeleton. Readers searching “how to” want ordered steps; readers searching “X vs Y” want the same criteria applied to both, then a verdict. Mixing the two is how posts feel wrong without the writer knowing why.
  2. Every heading carries a brief. One line under each H2 states what that section must prove or deliver. If you cannot write the brief, the section does not belong in the post yet.
  3. Edit before you draft. Delete a section, move one, rename one — in the outline that costs seconds. In a finished draft it costs an afternoon.

What this tool does not do

  • It structures a post; it does not research one. The facts, examples and figures inside each section are yours to supply.
  • It will not judge whether the topic is worth writing. A clean outline of a post nobody needs is still a post nobody needs.
  • The target lengths are planning guides, not rules — a complete short post beats a padded long one.

Questions

Blog Outline Generator questions

Because readers arrive with different jobs. A how-to reader wants to do something in order; a comparison reader wants a decision; a list reader wants to scan and pick. The outline generator uses a different section skeleton for each intent, so the structure matches the promise the title made.
Yes — that is the point of it. Copy or download the Markdown, then delete, rename and reorder sections in your own editor before you draft a word. The brief under each heading tells the future you what that section was for.
Plain Markdown: one H1, H2 sections with H3 detail prompts, a questions block and a conclusion. Markdown pastes cleanly into WordPress, Notion, Google Docs and most writing tools without reformatting.
